Butterfly Chip Trick
The butterfly chip trick is one of the
most difficult poker chip tricks you can perform. The only chip trick
I know of that's harder to pull off is the muscle pass. It took me at least
a week learn the butterfly chip trick.
It was at least a month before I could do butterfly consistently and make it
look somewhat smooth. This should be one of the last chip tricks you
learn. If the chip twirl is at all difficult
for you, then get that chip trick down first before you attempt to learn the
butterfly. People with small hands are really going to have a hard time with
this chip trick as you have to stretch your fingers quite a bit. I had
sore fingers the first week or two I practiced the butterfly.
Begin by holding four poker chips as shown above. The starting hand position for the butterfly chip trick is exactly the same as that in the thumb flip. Place your thumb at the base of the stack, touching the two chips nearest your palm.
Lift the two inside chips nearest your palm up with your thumb. At the same time guide the front two poker chips down onto your pinky finger. As the two chips roll onto your pinky finger, move your ring finger up around the edge of the chips so that it is almost opposite your pinky finger. Using your middle finger, adjust the lower two chips into the correct position.
Once you are able to hold both sets of chips without using your middle finger, bring your middle finger down between both sets of poker chips as shown above. Rest both pairs of chips on your middle finger while applying moderate pressure. At this point in the chip trick, your thumb and pinky fingers should either touch, or almost be touching your middle finger. Your hand position should look similar to that in the above picture.
This is by far the most
difficult part of the butterfly chip trick, fanning the chips out. Using
your thumb slide the top back chip nearest your palm up. At the same time
using your pinky finger, slide the lower front chip farthest from your palm
down and out. While you do this, move your middle finger back at the same
time which will fan the chips out as shown above.
